If you live in a red brick house, the best door colour is dark blue. The reason being that, on a colour wheel, the most complementary colour of red brick’s orangery hue is dark blue. However, steel blue/grey and pastel green are other good colours for doors on red brick houses, whilst a white front door will also stand out on them.
For anyone interested in a new front door, we have compiled some of the commonly asked questions on coloured front doors into this handy blog.
Navy blue, black and dark grey front doors are great colours for pale stone or rendered homes. However, the important thing when choosing a front door for a white house is to ensure it stands out against the white. Therefore, you might consider a bright yellow, lime or even a turquoise front door if you’re looking for something equally bold but more contemporary.
There are several answers to this. In early American tradition, red doors meant ‘welcome’, so if you’d like to emulate our transatlantic cousins, you can’t go wrong with a red front door. However, green is a warm and inviting shade that indicates health, environmental friendliness and goodwill.
This depends on the type of property. However, in an article where they spoke to several estate agents, Country Life Magazine reported that any blue, including duck egg blue, navy or teal, was the best overall front door colour for selling a house.
Green, which includes sage, lichen, royal and olive green, was the next most enticing, with grey and black front doors just behind.
Soft blues and greens look especially charming on country cottages. Chartwell green front doors and duck egg blue ones are two specific options you might consider. However, you cannot go wrong with natural wood finishes either.
According to the ancient Chinese practice of Feng shui, this depends on what direction your door is facing; south-facing doors should be red or orange; north-facing doors will be lucky if painted blue or black; gray or white paint should be applied to west-facing doors; east-facing doors are lucky if painted brown or green.

Could I just put on record how impressed we have been with Mick and the team who came to lay the base last week.
They arrived promptly, worked very hard and efficiently, left everything tidy, and above all they have done an excellent job in just a few days.
I assume we were lucky enough to have had your A team working here. If they are not recognised as such, well they should be!
Please thank them on our behalf for doing an excellent job.
Just wanted to thank you all for the installations carried out at my house last week. The window fitters were great, and I have to pass on an extra special thanks for the chap who came in on the Friday to single handedly fit the doors. He was brilliant and did an amazing job. All your fitters kept me informed what was going on and left no mess. So happy with the result. Many thanks to you too Matt, for juggling jobs to keep my kitchen refit on schedule. Much appreciated.
